The Tobin Center Art Initiative is proud to partner with the San Antonio Ethnic Art Society in exhibiting works from 11 society members. Blue on Blues is a celebration of creativity, culture, and community. It challenges us to reconsider the ways in which color shapes our perceptions and experiences, inviting us to explore the universal and deeply personal meanings of blue, music and the arts in our lives.
The San Antonio Ethnic Art Society (SAEAS - pronounced ‘sees’), was founded in 1983 by Johnny Yates, John Coleman, Aaronetta and Dr. Joseph Pierce, Dr. Gary Houston, and F.L. “Doc” Spellman. Their goal is to increase awareness and understanding of visual art specific to African and African American ancestry. Today, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization is a multicultural artist collective. SAEAS curates members’ exhibitions, underwrites one-on-one arts training for San Antonio area youth ages 10-17, and supports a biennial artist grant for African American women in visual arts through the SAEAS Abaraka Award. SAEAS also provides opportunities for our members to actively engage in and enrich the community through creative experiences. To learn more about SAEAS visit www.saethnicartsociety.org.
